PM206: Kirtan Chant as Connective Prayer

Rabbi Andrew Hahn, Ph.D. (Kirtan Rabbi) and Shoshana Jedwab

Four sessions—Tuesday through Friday—each lasting 2.5 hours

In this four-day class, we will explore through chanting, breath exercises, voice work, rhythm and bodily movement avenues of (re-)connection in the post-Zoom era. The goal will be, together, to create a leaderless sound bath of prayer and easy vibrational meditation, utilizing kirtan and other chant modalities. Kirtan Rabbi and Shoshana Jedwab will be joined by vocal expert and prayer leader Renee Finkelstein. No knowledge of Hebrew is required to benefit fully from this class—just an eagerness to experiment and join. All are welcome to join a community-wide evening kirtan concert.

"Openings" Release Party with Shoshana Jedwab @ Romemu via Zoom

Please join us for a Sukkot celebration in honor of Shoshana Jedwab's new single “Openings”

Join us in the virtual Sukkah for music, dance and conscious feasting to celebrate the release of Openings, Shoshana Jedwab's new single!

Openings is a musical reimagining of Asher Yatzar, Judaism’s traditional blessing over excretion (the Jewish “bathroom blessing”). A joyous, dance-ready tune, Openings invites us into the spirit of Sukkot, a holiday festival that celebrates both the joy and fragility of embodiment, and of our dwelling places, all at the same time.

Romemu is thrilled to co-sponsor this event, featuring Rabbi Dianne Cohler-Esses, Kohenet Shamirah (Sarah Chandler), Dr. Judy Siegel, dance catalyst Kohenet Aliza Rivka, embodiment activist Shawn Shafner, and of course, Shoshana Jedwab!
