Borderline Ozi

My new unrecorded song Borderline Ozi is a blues rock meditation on Havdalah, the multi-sensory, ancestral Saturday night ceremony at the liminal close of the Holy Sabbath and the start of the work week.

On another level, Borderline Ozi is about every boundary and choice point in our time-limited, skin-bound, mortal life. Borderline Ozi grew from the research into Havdalah that I did as a teacher at the former Kohenet West Hebrew Priestess Institute. This song expresses the juicy embodied ancestral spirituality that is contemporary Kohenet Movement culture and liturgy.

Words, except for Ozi, and music by Shoshana Jedwab

Ozi ve zimrat Yah, vayehi li lishua
Yah is my strength and my song
Yah will be my salvation

Look for three stars in the night sky
Smell the spices, pour the sweet wine
We’re at the great divide, on the borderline
With Sabbath ending, gather in blessing cause
We’re going back to the fires we’re tending
At the great divide, on the borderline
For every mortal – a sacred portal
Nobody knows what will be tomorrow
At the great divide, on the borderline
So light it up in celebration
Profane and holy are both revelations
At the great divide, on the borderline

Start your work week, start the action
Bring more justice, bring your passion
At the great divide, on the borderline
Find a lover, don’t take cover
Wish a good week to some sweet other
At the great divide, on the borderline
Bring the Messiah, bring good intention
For soon you will be the next ancestor
At the great divide, on the borderline
There are evil forces, but there is freedom
Help us Elijah, and Prophetess Miriam
At the great divide, on the borderline

The fire’s shining rainbow colors
Lift all the children high up on our shoulders
At the great divide, on the borderline
Just put your trust in the power of loving
Fill up your senses, offer your skin for touching
At the great divide, on the borderline
There’s still a good chance, for the big dance
The Queen is hanging on for one more romance
At the great divide, on the borderline
So, say hello, or say goodbye just
Put your candle into the cup of wine
At the great divide, on the borderline
